THE PRAY PROJECT - Jewel Pugal

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YoSbLrZdo3o
The video we created were focused about extreme poverty and hunger here in the Philippines and how each family coped up in their lives. We didn’t really focus on the negative part of the thing they are experiencing but rather how they go through it and remain connected to God and having faith that everything’s going to be okay. We chose the song Pray by Justin Bieber because his songs clearly identify how we want our video to be about. We are tasked to put shots that has Soviet Montage, German Expressionism and .We took the videos at Laguna, my group member has someone she can asks to guide us at the place because we can’t just go to a community without guidance and protection, her mom and dad also is with us to be completely safe. Conducting the survey we had is just fine because we prepared the questions and their answer were all natural and it’s really from them, it’s not scripted and all and every scene we wanted to have are successfully done. We just have a scripted shots it’s where they close their eyes and pray and also asking kids to do the act of prayer and they are really following us. It also gives us a thought that everything has hope and everything has an end they just have to devote themselves in prayer and have faith not by just praying but by also giving their best to be out of their miserable life. There is also one thing that struck me while doing the video it’s when we asks them if they have another chance to be alive or be given a second chance what would their wish be and why, you can say that they answer to the questions honestly and all they want is for their child to finish college and have a proper work and to have a good life and health. In spite of being in their position they didn’t chose to be wealthy but rather just a perfect life where they can have 3 meals a day and a place to live and a work to get their money from most especially is I can see that even if they are in that kind of position they can still smile and hope for the best. It’s a fun experience and I can say that I would want to do that kind of film again, applying all the things we’ve learn and creating something that can impact someone’s life. It’s also fun to be in my group because each has their own tasks and ideas and everyone contributed to the video though there is one in our group who aren’t with us during shooting but we just tried to understand her. Watch our fil and be touched by each individual that will appear in the video, lets contribute to our society for them to have a good land happy world to live. Let’s be together to lend a helping hand.

Aaand cut! #AuRevoirFirstSem

We were asked to do a music video with a short film in it about Maternal Health with some German Expressionism, Bollywood and French Surrealism. When I told my group mates that I picked “Maternal Health”, they weren’t really happy because they wanted me to pick a style of J-Horror. Yana was the person who made the story. It is a story about pregnant women who is often paranoid of the child’s result— if it is safe or not. In the movie, our pregnant girl, Julia, wakes up in unusual places and there will be us, the unknown, scary characters who wear masks will always be behind or catching Julia, just like Tom and Jerry, and she has to run because she is protecting her baby. Thankfully, each of us participated very well. If our director/leader says that we have to bring things like these, we will, or have to buy stuff even though it’s pricey, we will still buy in order to achieve the music video we want. That is why there wasn’t a big problem if our leader says there’ll be a shooting, although some of us comes in late. This is also the reason why we only had 2 days of shooting because our director is often satisfied with our acting and dancing skills. In fact, the masks were made in Starbucks, SM Manila! Big thanks to the staff and costumers who did not seem to mind us.

Overall, it was really challenging! The heat and the stress, yet we still managed to laugh it off and call it a day. I guess the editing part was really the problem we had since the editor said that, "SD card won’t work” or “Most of the parts are missing” and the worst part was, we were all panicking because half of us were already in their vacations so Alex, Janine and I, who were enjoying our “termbreak free” vacation in Tagaytay, we only had an hour in the place because we had to travel back to ParaƱaque because that is where our director, Yana, lives. (LOL). I am proud to say that we have applied the three styles— German Expressionism, French Surrealism, and Bollywood. In this music video we had, we realized that being a Mass Communication student wouldn’t really be easy as most people think. Like, you really have to be creative and you are not supposed to say, “Pwede na yan, papasa na tayo diyan.” Also, you wouldn’t even dare to procrastinate because the deadline IS the deadline. Nonetheless, our journey was super duper fun! I am beyond grateful that I am with Yana, Julia, Janine, Reva and Alex. It was all worth it! We even met new friends, experienced something new in our lives and being in some places I’ve never been with new people/friends are my best parts of the shoot.

Au Revoir, First Semester! Thank you, sir Nate! :)

#ManilArt2015: Mayroong Forever sa Art

Last October 10, 2015, was the 2nd day of #ManilArtFair2015 held in SMX Convention Center, MOA. Upon entering the event, we've seen different types of Art expressed by different artists. Each artist has their own signature mark to distinguish themselves from one another. I have heard people chattering about "what is this?” "Ano bang gustong sabihin nung painter/artist?" and "Maganda sya, pero hindi ko ma-gets" With this, I've came up to a conclusion that many people loves visualization. But for me, art becomes art when you know what the artist wants to convey. Just a simple splash of paints becomes an art when you know the message of the artist.

An art is something that lasts. Seeing all the paintings at the art fair made me remember of the famous Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci, The Scream by Edvard Munch, and the Vitruvian Man also by Leonardo Da Vinci. Art has the power to inspire everyone and continuously makes everyone express themselves.

TRULY SPECTACULAR

"Raising The Philippine Colors on the World Stage"

Last Saturday, October 10, 2015, was truly a spectacular day for us
only for me but also for my blockmates, it's really overwhelming to see artworks
that was made by our own fellowmen, by a fellow Filipino. Big thanks to our professor
for letting us experience this kind of event that really made us proud!

As we enter inside the convention center, we were welcomed by these amazing artworks, this
sets our mood and expectation that this place is really filled with a one of a kind crafts and artworks.

"Still looking for the missing pieces to complete me"

The funny thing I remember about this display is that when I heard a kid asking his mom
"Mommy, why is she only wearing bra?" then her mom replied "Anak of all the thing, bakit yung bra pa niya yung napansin mo?" (what a sneaky kid, LOL )

This section is probably my favorite because of unordinary paintings with a little
touch of modernity.

Here are some of the paintings that really catched my attention:
(and I named them on my own)

"What a girl wants?"

"Lust and love"

"Menemist"

"The modern day sleeping beauty"

:

"I scream for justice"

"Insecurity kills"

After spending almost an hour and a half of roaming around the convention center
I can say it's truly worth it, all the time, money and effort we spent in going here was
really paid off by those amazing artworks and crafts. I'm looking forward to attend
more Art Exhibits in the near future.

We scream for ice crean!!!!!!!

"Raising The Filipino Colors On  World Stage"

This is the largest and most comprehensive visual arts fair in thePhilippines.
Different countries from around the world such as Malaysia, France and Singapore are joining this event that happens once a year. Many artists showcase their proudly made art in this event , some are looking if they could exchange their work of art for a rightful price of money, while others did only for attraction to the guests. I , myself witnessed lot and lots of stunning artworks like figurative, kinetic, abstract, and conceptual arts made by different masters of art.Critics, kids, photographers, students, teachers, businessman, foreigners and many more attended this 4-day event at the SMX convention center ,SM Aura premier at Bonifacio Global City.

The event was made possible by Bonafide Art Galleries Organization (BAGO) and the National Commission for Culture and the Art. One of the goal of this event is to promote extraordinary and beautiful Filipino talents , to discover modern kinds of  innovative artworks and also connect them to an eager market.

One more thing about this glorious event , the public can readily view and appreciate all the artworks displayed in this event.

Here are some pictures of  wonderful artworks shown in the event. (All pictures are taken by myself)

Masterpiece in ManilArt

Masterpiece in ManilArt
By: Ruee Minardo

It was my first time to attend exhibits in a convention center and I find it very interesting. The whole ManilArt experience in Taguig amazed and struck me for its wondrous masterpieces. Everything was compact and relevant. I also learned so much from this experience. Before, I didn't know the difference of pastel and acrylic. I also realized that there are also mise-en-scenes in the painting just like the arranged marriage that was displayed there. Another section that was seeked my attention was the three dimensional artworks that was actually hand painted. I also loved the artwork that has Swarovskis in it. Those crafts were magnificent so I wasn't really shocked when the tour guide said their worth when they were auctioned. I also enjoyed looking at the warped paintings wherein they stretch an icons faces. Examples were Mona Lisa, Marilyn Monroe, Whisler's Mother and Scream. It made the painting very cutesy which I liked. I appreciate Filipino artists who never stops creating and expressing their feelings and emotions in the name of art. They should be honored and they should be an inspiration.
